Or at least it felt like it.
I finally bit the bullet and cut Little G’s hair. I did it.
It was a tough but necessary moment.
When he was eating (and using food as hair gel) his hair had turned into an Einstein look alike.

Here goes the first cut.

And the final result!

Here are some tips on how to cut your baby’s first haircut (learned the hard way):

  • Have a game plan setup before you start.
  • Set out all your distractions and backup distractions nearby.
  • Use shorter scissors, they are easier to control than the longer ones I used. If possible try to use child safe scissors.
  • Distract with whatever you have. Food, baby movies (our favorite is Praise Baby), Daddy. Use anything at your disposal.
  • Don’t try to cut the baby’s hair while they are tired, cranky, or abnormally playful. You would like as calm a child as you can have. I wouldn’t attempt a sleeping child, because our little guy tends to flail when touched while sleeping.
  • Give breaks often.
  • Distract.
  • Don’t worry about being perfect, you’ll be a miracle worker if you get it done in the first place.
  • Distract Distract Distract (are you seeing a trend here)
