I finally did it! I finally remembered to look up the dates for swimming classes, and it was before they started. YAY!

G LOVES the water. I can’t stress how much he LOVES it. Baths do not make him sleepy, they make him more energetic and a little bit more crazy. He loves washing his hands, puddles, tubs… anything water related.

We hope that he has fun and learns a respect for water and pools. At the minimum we hope he learns that it’s not ok to go into the pool without asking first.

I am completely looking forward to this, but at the same time I am a little apprehensive. I had no idea of the culture I have inadvertently jumped into. The way that our town works, you can sign up at 7 if you are a resident and 7:30 if you are not. So of course I was late and got there at 7:35. There was already a line of parents formed. And as I walked in the room you could feel the tension to secure your place in the line and make sure your kid got into the class you wanted. Thankfully the woman directly in front of me and behind me were very friendly. Without them it would have been a much more uncomfortable wait.

Shortly after I got in line another woman came crowding up to the line. She had her paper out and her check ready to roll. Not in the friendliest of tone she asked if this was the line for residents. The woman behind me responded in kind and informed her that at 7:30 the line opened up for everyone (she was not a resident). With a curt response the crowding woman informed us that she was there before 7:30. I think not, considering I was there late myself.

It was very interesting watching everyone try to get their spot and discuss their past years in swimming.

I am only seeing a glimpse of what the “soccer mom” world could look like if I am not careful. I am going to have to be on my guard and watch where my motivation lies and how I treat G and the other parents when it comes to his activities.

So now we are going to be starting swimming. That means fun fun fun for G, early Saturdays and bathing suits. Pregnant and wearing a bathing suit, oh dear!

  • Sounds very fun and interesting.
Enjoy yourself and your baby 🙂
You will be able to temper the other parents. I’m sure most of the others are a little cautious and want to make friends too.

    Aloha!
