I am not a “fashionista.”  A typical weekend (pre-pregnancy) consisted of comfy yoga pants (or jeans, if I was going out) and a hoodie sweatshirt and/or t-shirt depending on the weather.  My hair is perpetually in a ponytail, and while I typically do not leave the house without SOME form of make-up, usually my beautification routine consists of under-eye concealer, eye liner, mascara, and eye shadow.  On special occasions, I may wear foundation and some blush to brighten my paler-than-the-moon complexion, but we’re talking weddings/holidays/family gathering type events.

I was concerned when we found out that I was pregnant that I would be blessed with a beautiful baby girl and I would either have to learn how to braid hair, take an interest in dresses and matching and eventually have to teach her about make-up OR start hoping that Cinderella’s fairy godmother was available and could step in for me.

When we found out we were expecting a BOY, I think I was more thrilled, excited and (let’s be honest) RELIEVED than my husband.  Boys I can do.  Boys don’t care about matching, hair styles, make-up or fancy clothes.  Well, most boys.  I was free and clear from having to spend hours agonizing over the perfect frilly dress and instead would luck out with just having to worry about a shirt and pants.  I can do that!

Little did I know that, when it comes to your kids, you always want them to look cuter than you.  Hence when we found out our baby-to-be was a boy, I may have gone a little cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs when it came to shopping for clothes.  I now own WAY too many Polo jumpers and pants, and have enjoyed the challenge of finding clothes that perfectly match to the personalities and interests of my family.  In addition to Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas outfits already purchased (I love a good sale), I also went a little B-A-N-A-N-A-S buying relative-specific clothes for our little man-to-be.

I was certain that having a little boy meant not having to concern myself so much with his wardrobe.  Little did I know how cute little boy clothes were, and what a sucker I am for a cute little slogan (or farm tractor) on an itty bitty onesie.
